One of Nation’s Largest University Systems Taps Paskill for Staff Development

Keeping admissions teams trained in recruiting skills is critical to higher education enrollment, especially as on-campus engagement has changed, and virtual relationship-building is more commonplace.

Even before COVID-19, these essential staff may not always receive the professional development and training they need to do their jobs effectively. Without such training, their effectiveness and the university’s enrollment can suffer.

For big system schools, where admissions teams can be based across multiple campuses and represent a range of roles and experience levels, professional development can be especially tricky. That’s why Penn State University System reached out to Paskill to unite such audiences and offer professional development for those new to the field and those veteran employees in need of renewed focus.

dave b photoDave Black, Paskill vice president of consulting and research, recently served as guest speaker and consultant for more than 100 admissions professional from over 20 campuses. From support staff that never received professional development to directors of enrollment management responsible for goals and teams, the guidance Black offered over a period of two days included and challenged all participants through a series of presentations.

With decades of experience supporting colleges and universities across the country with their enrollment marketing needs, Paskill has provided more than 1,000 workshops to foster academic sales training and improve outcomes. Black has led Paskill’s SMART and Yield Boot Camp workshops and other customized trainings in his robust career in higher education enrollment marketing.

“Professional development offers admissions teams that currently have a sense of remoteness, some restored connectivity,” says Black. “Training is also a chance to cultivate new ideas and refresh old ideas with how admissions teams approach students and families. It strengthens our ability to meet the varied needs of our clients and system offices.”
