This is what Mark Chalmers, Assistant Director of Admissions from Thomas Jefferson University had to say about his experience at our recent Advanced Admissions Management Bootcamp in Philadelphia. We conducted the sessions in Pittsburgh and Boston this summer as well. The response and turnout was better than we had hoped for and we’ll definitely be organizing more Advanced Admissions Management Bootcamps in other cities. Stay tuned for the details.
The target audience for these workshops was admissions directors, associate/assistant directors and managers of the day-to-day enrollment operations at colleges and universities. Our university consultants led the training and focused on team building, enrollment planning, higher ed marketing and campus leadership. The daylong session was packed with best practice advice and suggestions for being effective managers and improving enrollment outcomes.
Each session was like an “admissions management shop-talk immersion”. From my observations, I would say that team building and managing personalities were the hottest topics on the agenda. Deb Speck, Director of Admissions at Kent State University /Stark Campus said the workshop,
“Helped me develop a renewed appreciation for those who report to me, as well as my influence on them.”
PS&L’s Advanced Admissions Management Bootcamp was a gathering of peers. Everyone was eager to share their enrollment management issues and get validation, and there was plenty of empathy and support all around. Given the gregarious nature of admissions people, I was not surprised by the dynamics of a room filled with directors and managers– but it was inspiring to see the genuine interest that everyone had for the problems and solutions that were shared.
Will the Advanced Admissions Management Bootcamp make an impact back on campus? We truly hope so. We did not work on the biceps and the triceps but we surely worked on minds! Pablo Alverez, Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University said the Bootcamp was,
